Under the theme "Ontario en fête!", the pedestrian street invites citizens to gather, play and, above all, celebrate the unique character of the neighbourhood. For the 2023 edition, a number of new features were added, enhancing the festive atmosphere.

A renewed identity

This new edition, inspired by funfairs, stands out with its visual identity and unique graphic universe. It features eclectic, vibrant colors, geometric graphic design, interactive installations and giant animal arches.

Bringing the street to life

The street is punctuated by a series of colorful stations, complete with assorted flowers and plants. These stations serve a variety of purposes, providing spaces for relaxation, picnics and games. The ever-popular swing sets are back again this year, with the event stretching over more than a kilometer.

A street for all

The pedestrianization of Ontario Street is notable for its overall accessibility. All installations are equipped with access ramps, so that everyone can enjoy them. Each year is an opportunity to improve accessibility and set higher standards for street pedestrianization.

A redesigned family area features integrated interactive games. Visible from afar, this space welcomes users with its bear on one side and its giant lion on the other.

Interactive wheels with psychedelic designs outfit the space, and children use blackboards to express their creativity.

Between Bourbonnière and Valois avenues, the Station Hochelaga offers a new space to citizens for the duration of the event. Upgraded to reflect the "Ontario en fête!" colors and graphic identity, the normally vacant site offers pop-up facilities and a chance for citizens to reclaim the space. Its size and strategic positioning allow the SDC to offer surprise programming for larger-scale events.

Reuse and innovation

Ecological and responsible, the furniture and various installations have been recycled since the first pedestrianization of the street. To ensure optimal quality, the furniture is restored as needed and enhanced with the addition of new pieces. From year to year, the collection of furniture offers a complete and varied space that everyone can enjoy in their own way.

Plants and landscaping

A planted path stretches along the entire street, with a total of 250 planting boxes. There's a mix of green plants, edible plants and a wide variety of flowers in the colors of the 2023 edition's graphic identity.

For a 4th consecutive year, plants were redistributed to local residents in September.

Particular attention was paid to the arrangement of the flowers to create "islands" of color, the flowers matching the furniture and various installations they flank. To highlight this aspect of the street design, signs were hidden in some of the planters so that passers-by could learn a little more about the beautiful nature that surrounds them in a fun way.
